Seeing 2020
Digital Prints & Copper, 2019
This submission is a calendar that spotlights some of the weird and wonderful predictions made by various futurists between 1900 and 1967 about what life would be like in the year 2020. Most of the predictions were originally published in respected publications such as The Ladies’ Home Journal, Modern Mechanix, Popular Mechanics, and Time. The title of the calendar is a play on words that refers to both “seeing with 20/20 vision” and seeing, or foreseeing, the year 2020. The project also features a bespoke copper stand that I designed and commissioned for fabrication. It displays specially-shaped pages that are each exactly 1/12th of a circle that together represents the earth’s annual cycle.
